"Heartsopper" is the story of Charlie, a gay teenager who falls in love with his new class buddy, Nick. As the story goes on, there is a lot of issues with friends, acqueatences and bullies. As they also are in a journey to discover who they really are.

Disclaimer:
As always, I am very honest with all my reviews. Regardless of what the country, language, or the narrative.
Lets start with the production. It is good, that was a really good production, my goodness. The cinematorgraphy is great, the settings are amazing as well. I really love the way this series is set up, it is beautiful to look at. Even the cartoonish parts of it, it was really aamazing, it didnt bother me at all. There is not a moment were something felt off, or even weird. You know how sometimes there are some weird backkground noises, and stuff like that, not on this one, oh no babe, this show really said: "I am coming through." I really applaud the production team, even the outfits, wow, every character had a defining look which is just beautiful. Well, I bet they had a BUDGET, because look at this

Writing: Well, Well, WELL. I am impressed. This is a teenage drama, and I think it tackles most of the issues we face as individuals when we are younger -or maybe older too-. For one, I am impressed at the portrayal of a transgender character. When I tell y’all that I forgot that Elle was transgender, chef kisses. it is part of the main issue of the series, but her portrayal and acting was just amazingly good, and this is all thanks to the writing. Now, I am not saying it is a good thing we forgot, all I am saying is that her character was portrayed as normal, as it should be god damn. I do have one complaint though, which is, that her issues are mentioned but never lived through, so it would have been better to kinda see part of that. Now, that doesn’t take away the fact that the character is just beautifuly written. Nick is amazing, I love how bisexuality is embraced in this show, and the fact that he doesn‘t want Charlie to suffer just because of him and his “confusion”. YOO that was so goood like, god damn this show. Again, I do have some issues with the writting, I needed to see more interaction between his mother and him, because that way I would have gotten the impression that she was just fine with him being gay/bi/pan or anything (To get to know the mother, you know, if she is, in general, a good person, but that doesn’t take away the fact that it is a great show). Charlie, oh Charlie. This guy represents all of the struggles I have gone through myself. From his friends to his lovers and just the insecurities of not knowing if he is, in fact, being sincerely loved -society can be a bitch to queers- . I haven’t read the novel but I am curious as to why there is not a lot of interaction between the parents and their kids. Charlie’s dad seems like he is fine with him just being who he is but I wonder if it was always like that. So, there’s still room for improvement. #RenewHeartstopper. Aside from this, the bullies are a 10/10, it was real, like honestly, I have been through and the show did a good job at portraying this, as well as the beautiful/flirty moments. There is balance, you dont get a romanticized version of the struggles, as well as an overwhelming amount of flirty moments, it just feels natural. now I have some moments that stood out the most to me:
Cant do sports stereotypes; this is just great, honestly, they criticizd him for not playing sports when in reality, he doesn’t play Sports because they make fun of him(?) you know, is a cycle. I am good at sports, but I never did any when I was younger because the kids would make fun of him so, why try? the mopment you make a mistake, you knew those kids were going to be in your ass bullying you, And then they would say stuff like “oh the f*g that doesn’t know how to play sports lol”, yeah well f- you.
invasion of privacy; I don’t know if you guys noticed but this show does criticize the invasion of privacy of the characters. Yaaaas. Not because we are friends, acquaintances, or just known each other for some reason, you are allowed to be in my business every five minutes. This is noticeable because you can see how some of them were uncomfortable at the amount of attention, people wanting to know what it was like being gay, or how long have tou know. Maybe you have good intentions but damn I am still me let me breathe babe.

Friends can be assholes too; even when they have good intentions. I am impressed. Tao is such a caring friend, but he can be toxic, and that is okay-ish. There are a lot of things that I loved about the way he cared for Charlie, but also, sometimes he was a little extreme. And this just goes on to show what I just said, friends can have the best of the intentions, but they can be assholes while at it. I feel like because he hasnt been in the same shoes, or not that we are aware of, he is not able to undertsan dCharlie as much as Charlie wants him to. This friendship is pure and just beautiful, and still, you can your moments where you really know you are probably fucked up. Again, since this is a teenage drama, it really did its part at conveying that, a TEENAGE drama. Honestly, I was probably more of an asshole when I was in tenth grade, which, I am so sorry for and I apolozgiez to myu friends a million times as well. And then in 11th grade, mny friends turned into the same thing, which is unhealthy, but a kinda, of normal thing when you are a teenager.

The importance of being honest. The more honest and open you are about yourself, the better it is for you and hte ones around you. I think the show gives us this clear idea, by the end, if Nick hadnt come to realization, or at least be honest with himself and the ones around him, he was on a journey to suffer. Same way with Darcy and Tara, having to sneak out and act like they were friends would just help until a certain point, so for the young ones out there who are still figuring themselves out or who are already clear on what they like or who they loved, this show sends a message that, being out has its pros and cons, but your happiness is above all when it comes to love. Yall ghet my point if you waytched it.
Final thoughts on the writing. Yes, there is room for improvement, but the flaws are less than the perfections. This show was written amazingly and I cried a couple of times.

Acting. Well, okay so the first episode has this flaw. The acting in the first episode was kinda weak, I would guess this is because they were not comfortable with each other jsut yet. Mostly Kit. Aside from this, damn. After episode one, they really seem to be more than just friends. Everybody played their part. I would say William aka Tao, sometimes I did feel like he was drifting a little, just a little, but otherwise, he did a good job at playing his character. That hair man, aksjsksjjk, I mean, he looks good but it took me a minute to get used to it lol. Yasmin, she did amazing as well, I guess it's true, when you actually play the part that you have also played in real life, it just comes out naturally, I mean, obviously. Sebastian, he played an asshole, and it was a good portrayal, theres one scene that really stood out to me and is when Charlie comes at him in the field and yells at him, Ben looked terrified, as he should, and Sebastian did a good job at conveying that. This is turning into an essay lol. Last, but not least, Joe, man, you did your thing and thats what you did. PERIOD. This kid is a natural, I bet he was comfortable because it just looks like it, natural ugh. Anyways, those are my two cents into this. I am sure I forgot other things to say but this is an essay now and I think I am done.

It does feel like a netflix show, lol, they have their formula by now, which bothers me because all of their Spanish shows are literally a copy of themselves. I do agree with the parents thing as well, it needs to be better develop, thankfully by now, we are having a second season, yay. Thank you sean! much love, tonei.
Completely disagree with your acting analysis. Kit Connor was the most natural and gifted of the actors, easily earned being the sole cast member to win an Emmy. Joe Locke was similarly excellent, if a little nervous. Will Gao and Sebastian Croft were absolutely hammy. Yasmin Finney was very, very wooden.
Okay, I couldn't avoid waiting one more day as everyone kept telling me how amazing this show was. So, I binged it tonight. I wasn't disappointed. BUT, I was underwhelmed. This show felt very "Netflix" to me. It was safe script filled with stock characters. We have seen this shrinking violet type of gay character before: Not feeling worthy of love albeit suicidal by episode 7; can't stand up to bullies; fragile. And, then, the straight boy isn't sure but he some how saves the day by coming out and now we live happily ever after.I just would love a more refreshing take on coming out stories. Every character fit right in a perfect box. And, where were the parents?…
