Paint with Love (Review)

'Paint with Love' is the story of a painter who ruins a very important event and is forced to work for a company to repay his debt. We have Tae Darvid playing the painter 'Phap' and Singto who plays 'Maze' the boss of the company. The cast also includes some other actors who are well known from series such as 'Together with Me' and 'TharnType'.

So, I have a lot of mixed feelings towards this bl, more could have been done to make it work better.

Let's start with the acting. I am glad Singto got to leave GMMTV because I feel like every character he had been playing in, was the same as the last one. In this series, he seems to be taking things more seriously and such, however, I felt like sometimes he was a little 'stiff', and I am going to explain myself here. You guys know whenever you are giving a speech and you don't know where to put your arms? is like "hello? what are these for?", that's what it felt like his acting at times, not that it was bad, but it felt a little off. Tae, wow!, I am surprised because I saw him in '2 Moons' and he played a more serious, mature guy, here he is just annoying and nuance, not a bad a thing, but it was realistic (looool) it felt like he was being himself, I am sorry Mr.Darvid. He did a good job, honestly, naturally. Aside from this, the acting is not that serious because the series is a comedy, everybody needs to just be natural, and the supporting cast did that. However, the side couple, they were stiff as well, when they were together, like awkwardly standing and such, I don't know.

Writing. So the writing is where I have the hardest feelings. My major issues come from Singto's character and his 'step-brother'. In the first episode that this storyline was introduced, I was very confused, mind you, I can get confused easily (lol) but I was just scratching my head. I thought it was the subtitles, you know, it felt awkward, but in the next episode... it was clear that Maze did not see his step-brother as just that, and I am troubled by this. They are not blood-related, but this is not right, honestly. I don't need to explain myself and throughout the series, even when 'Maze' realizes he has feelings for Phap. Most of the negative things come from the writing because the acting was not off as in 'I can't even watch this.' Is the writing that drowns this series, it felt fast-paced but slow (?) like one minute they are all good and literally, LITERALLY, five minutes later they are fighting and not talking to each other, in every single episode. It would be normal in two-three episodes, but every minute? No, it just gets boring and monotonous. Some of the positives things I liked: the criticism towards managers in the company, the pressure from the public towards bl actors (not fully explored, but it was a nice touch), the painting plot was kinda nice -he was able to express all his feelings in just one painting-, when the comedy was well-written it paid off.

The side couple was confusing as well, and they didn't have as much chemistry. In fact, not even the main couple felt like a real couple, I don't know why, it didn't give me that lovely vibe, you know? Also, I have to tell you guys, I stopped watching this series on episode 8. up until now that it is over. This review was on my drafts since then, I was hoping it would eventually pick up but in episode 10, I knew they were not going to fix the writing in just two episodes. So, after finishing, I should say, given the script, it would have been better to stick with 10 episodes and change or even erase some of the things that were unnecessary.

Final verdict: I love Singto and Tae, and the cast as a whole, (my TWM cast, I love them) but this series did not do justice for any of them. It tried to do a mature comedy, but in the process, it fell short of expectations. Grade: 7.5, it is average. I hope Singto and Tae can work together again in a series that really shows off their full talent.
