First vs. favorite bl

So today I just want to write something simple, no review, no "why do they do that", no "I am telling you this BL is good", just something simple.

A couple of months ago I uploaded to my Tumblr a post about my first bl vs my favorite. So! today I want to expand on that and I want to know what your first bl was and your favorite, and why? "why what" well, is your first bl your favorite? do you even like now? uwu

So critical lol.

Before we get to me, I would like to say thank you so much to those people who have been coming back to my blog and sharing it online. Thank you so much! I have been feeling a little overwhelmed with a lot of things and the gays are the only ones who keep me thriving. And y'all beautiful visitors!

First bl: Sotus.

First impression: So I saw this bl back in 2019, it was in "my list" on Netflix for quite some time, and one night, I was so freaking bored so I thought "maybe it is gay". Now the reason why I thought that was because I had this stereotype on my head, "Asian countries are very conservative" something that I have always been told. Well- if you watch Sotus you know is more like, I don't know, is not the same as the bls we get now. But for what it was, I watched the whole series in 1 and a half-day. I couldn't believe I was watching a series with gay characters. I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen. I just loved the dynamic, Arthip was such a different character, and then Kongpob too, as I had never seen characters like them in any series. The story was ground-breaking -again, for me- and just everything about it. I couldn't stop thinking about how perfect it was. And by the time I finished, -which I sneak out of work, went to the bathroom, and watched the last 8 minutes of it- I was almost crying knowing that I wouldn't be able to, kinda, see myself on the small screen. you best know I went home trying to find out if there was another season or I don't know, well I encountered GMMTV and... Sotus S.Needless to say is, Sotus popped the cherry, it was fantastic, phenomenal, the best gay romance I have ever seen, the best "enemy to lover", to best "masculine guy who acts tough to gay", now yes, I know, that is all toxic, but that's how I used to think, which is why... well, let's get to next part and then I would talk about this.

Comparison to now: Well, Sotus is not the best series. When I first watched I also found "MyDramaList" -shoutout to my returning and new visitors who come from there, I love you- I gave the series a 10, on everything. Since then, my mind has changed, a lot. It is not groundbreaking, if anything is just toxic. The series has such weird cinematography and the characters are just so... flat. After rewatching it - two years later - I couldn't stop thinking about how it shaped a lot of the bls that came afterward. And you can tell. Now, the point that I was getting to is, this is why we need to make lists of favorites. That way you can compare the growth of series, books, or movies, whatever it is, which is why this is bl for me now is on the middle of my list. It is not a good bl, if anything is just average.

Favorite bl: Lovely writer.

First impression: I loved this show with all my heart because it is everything I was waiting for a bl to do. I was impressed with Up and his acting, the script was a delight, and Kao made me love him. I was impressed by the stereotypes that were broken and some of the criticism drawn to the bl industry and fans alike. Some weak points, yes. In fact, Nub is kinda toxic if you think about it, but I am glad he redeem himself and knew he was wrong. The thing with this bl is that people don't like to be called out. And this is obvious looking at the bls that have come out in the past months. Anyway, this bl made me fall in love with the genre more and more. I wish more companies would go the same way as LW or BB. And don't get me wrong, you can have a toxic character, but how do you treat them at the end? Do you romanticize them? I mean, if you do I hope you show that they change at the end, otherwise... yikes.

Comparison to now: Well, although BB is on the top of my bl of all time, I also said my top 3 is my top 1. So, lol, but I have seen LW more times, it has aged like fine wine. In comparison with Sotus... oh babes, LW rules. And yes, you can compare bls. Stop taking shots at me for comparing, huh. Here´s the thing, you can compare bls after you have given your opinion. Anyway, "Lovely writer" has a different female supporting character, a different male supporting character, it gave us the "I am gay" and the daddy issues. It criticized bls for being so toxic, stereotypical, and for romanticizing toxic behavior. This is why Lovely writer for me is not just average, it is at the top. Excellent, unforgettable, and admirable. Alongside bad buddy, I cannot stop mentioning bad buddy, never. puuur.

First BL: My Bromance (but, I didn't know what a bl was and was thoroughly confused as they were brothers lol)

Favorite BL: two way tie between Bad Buddy & The Lovely Writer (depending on my mood one is better than the other).
