South Korea boy love stories...

Updated: Nov 28, 2021

Thailand has been the one country dominating the Boy Love scene, until Taiwan and South Korea said "Hold my story up"... I guess.

I should say, Taiwan has one of my favorite bls of all time, "History 3: Trapped" and they have managed to make decent bls over time. I love how uncensored they are, I mean, consider the story and then you would be able to appreciate them. However! the same can not be said about South Korea.

Let's look at the first bl by south Korea... sorta.

Where your eyes linger is not Korea's first bl, but it is the first by a "big" production company, right? and the first to break out to a more mainstream audience. This bl is one of my favorites because of how pure it is. However, after this boy-love story, everything kinda went in the same direction and... not for the good.

First, Yes! we should appreciate the fact that we are able to get Boy-love stories from South Korea. However, I feel like the production companies have taken advantage of the fact that we would eat it up because is boys kissing... Y I K E S.

Don't get me wrong, the acting on this series is top-notch, but for what it is, I feel like the companies should grow and give us more. We already have WYEL, we need something else.

Needless to say is, there are some bls that I really liked, "Light on Me" was longer and had more time to develop its characters. The acting was great, some points that could be better written, but overall was great.

'To my Star' was also longer and had the time to really get whatever message or entertainment they wanted to. But both of these stories benefit from having a simple plot, great acting and the time frame...

If you noticed, I mentioned time, simple plot, and acting. Something the vast majority of Korean bls lack is time, simple plot, and acting... and that is why they are so boring and dragging. Whenever I watch series that lack these three points, I just feel like I am being dragged by the actors, the director, the writer, and everybody else.

'You Make me Dance', too short, too complicated, and acting weak at times.

'The Tasty Florida' - too short and acting weak.

'My Sweet Dear' - too short and poorly-written. and this was clickbait to release the first single from the main actor...

'Mr.Heart' too short, storyline was too deep for the time frame.

'Color Rush'- Too complicated, too short.

'Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart' too short, too complicated and the acting was not it.

Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed some parts of these bls, perhaps, 'Mr.Heart' is my favorite out of the list. But these bls have something in common, they are too short. What can you do in 8-10 minutes? Man! nothing, you can state the problem, but not solve it. And this is what all these bls do, and I am so sorry companies, but no. If your bl is going to be complicated, give it more time. If your bl is going to be simple, then yes, 10 minutes is okay. I would rather have one bl per year that is at least 15 minutes per episodes (12 in total eps) and that will give you a decent bl. I do not blame the actors on their weak performance, you work with what you are given, so if your bl is messy, and short, your actors wont shine as you expect them to.

Why do I write this? Well, I have seen a lot negative comments on twitter regarding Korean bls and now i do not blame them, companies are really out here just trying to get our money. I mean, thank you for trying to represent us, LGBTQ+, but give me something, something good. Where your eyes linger was a cute piece, but it is time to grow, come on now. Light on me was good-good, To my Star was good as well, so please.

All we ask is, please gives us more time , more character development and no clickbait. Thank you.

Do you guys agree with me or am I just trippin?
