(My)Ranking BLs of 2022

Well hello, here we are again, another year! I never thought I would make it to a second year on this blog! I usually do this on my Tumblr as some of you might know but it feels so nice to do it here!

This year I feel like I have seen more bls than the previous year, and for some reason, I forgot some BLs actually came out this year and not in 2021. But I will have to include them all in one single post... because 2022 did not deliver babes. Side note: it doesn't feel like it is 2022, I feel like I am still in 2020. Anyway! Just a reminder this is my list of BLs of 2022 (the ones that I have seen or attempted to do that is, obviously I did not watch every single BL that came out so).

Cupid's Last Wish

After three episode I couldn't keep watching. I just felt like I was watching the same thing over again, I don't know why. They should have just go on with a different type of story right from the beginning. It did not help the fact that people who watched it on Hotstar spoiled the show on twitter :).

Unforgotten Night

This show is so bad I contemplated the thought of watching it in its entirety just to see how it would end up... but no, I don't hate myself that much.

Sky in your Heart

Another dropped. I could not even pass by episode 2 of this show. Just as I said on my reaction of 2022 trailers... it looked like ATOTS. Pass.

BLs I stopped, but do not have an opinion because I will come back to them...

Behind Cut (South Korea)

It started out fine, and it went down hill. Bad acting, the script is just a dragged, and the pacing... my dear lawd. If there is something companies should learn is, if you are going to give us a deep story, give 15 minutes (minimum) and more than 12 episodes.

Honest question, did you guys write this in one day? This show is dead right from the start, no chemistry, no good acting, and no fun, at all.

Cutie Pie

Until when is cutie enough? The question of the century. I said a lot in my review and apparently a lot of people agrees. I also think this is Love in the Air other half because they are both similar. And all I am going to say is, character development was missing, the direction was lacking, harassment and fetishes were all over the show, so, that's why it earns a spot here. But read the next part to see why they relate. Not the worst BL but it is not even Mid so.

Love in the Air

Okay so hear me out, I did not write a review on this show because... why would I? But I am ready for the smoke. Stop comparing this to KinnPorsche because there is no way in hell, heaven or in limbo, these are similar. No chemistry, no production value, and just bad. Starting with the main couple, cringy as hell, and that kid does not know how to act. Stop eating this shows up like, I am baffled. The story is missing a lot of things and I thought we were done with the shows that play it innocent but turned out to be predator-like shows, but I guess we are not. Like I said before, if your show is going to be a KinnPorsche-like show, you have to really sell it as that, mature. But stop selling the innocent image, oh you hear that? it sounds like predator-behavior to me. I hope people who read this get the point. If you are going to sell sex, then stop having these kids act like they are minors, innocents, and all cutie who need protection, because that sounds like you are selling sex from a pedo-pedo-pedo point of view. aside from this, the writing is messy, recycle dialogue, recycle jokes, the direction oh my, its just bad just watch episode 3 and that opening sequence was so bad. Let me give this a grade since we are here. 2 Electric Chair.

Star in my Mind

This the type of show a younger audience enjoys, the one where the "bottom" is so cute and needs protection, and the masculine, mysterious guy is the "top" and needs to protect the other. Clearly underline, read between the lines or not, you can tell. At this point you have to admit this type of show is made for that audience, the screaming, going crazy, giggling one... and its not it. you can do better. The acting is bad, the writing is worse and it just burned my brain cells. A waste of money, time, and staff.

Addressing my "GMMTV 2022 series trailer reaction", I said "he looks upgraded, in acting and just everything. I am excited about this. It looks promising, the actors do have chemistry and I am here for this. yes sir. I know that's right. Destroy me, hurt my feelings, come and chokkke me. I know this series is going to make me go everywhere where I can cry. Come on now. But the side story looks like a Tale of Thousand Stars?" It destroyed my brain cells, that is for sure. The acting did not give and it did looked like ATOTS.

Paint with Love (November 2021 - February 2022)

I love Darvid, and I like Singto, but this show was not it, it was not. It was bizarre and not in a funny way at times, and simple, too simple to be honest. There was chemistry at times but then it just felt like meh. Do better next time.

First Love Again (South Korea)

This show also started out good and then kinda just... went downhill and then back again in the hill lol. Not to say it is bad, because it stands out from the others mentioned above, but it has a lot of room to improve, which it wont because it is not a movie but if somebody tries to remake it, please write it better, do not fit 100 issues in the end and then solve it by the next episode.

Enchanté

Oh man, oh man. Full of flaws, the storyline is everywhere and the writing is just all over the place. It looks like 10 people tried to rewrite this show and the last one gave up and just passed on to production. Force is a cutie and Book as well, I just wished the show would have shown their talent, which they still need to work on, but hey, give me a good script and I will also cry to my dead grandma. Next time try not to focus on so many characters, and also, write a more cohesive mystery because this one could have been solved by Scooby doo and his gang.

Vice Versa

Where to start? I had hopes and this universe was not having it, *wink*. It started out strong and then fell to the bottom of the earth, *wink*. I think I gave the show a strong number, an 8 I think, but because of the production and cinematography, but in reality it should be 7. It could have been, it should have been, and it would have been, but no, it did not. Not the worst, but is mid, needs a lot of improvement.

Addressing my "GMMTV 2022 series trailer reaction", I said "Omg? the chemistry, the acting, the visuals? " did the chemistry and acting deliver? at times. mostly it did not. Visuals? Oh babe fight me over this one, one of the best, visually stunning, GMMTV shows. then I said "The storyline I thought it would be a stupid comedy, but it is going to be more than that. And for some reason I am getting Lovely Writer vibes. love to see it." Oh darling, had I known...

The saving grace of 2022, aka the Worth it BLs.

Semantic Error (South Korea)

Semantic Error did what needed to be done to save South Korea Bls. Good acting, chemistry off the charts, and simple storyline, no crazy plots, no 30-minutes-type-of-script, just simple. Even the kissing scene, mmm I see you taking notes from To my Star, exactly. Best Korean BL of this year.

The Eclipse

I did not write a review on The Eclipse because I finished 4 days before writing this, and let me tell you. This show ate, and left no crumbs. Period. The acting is good, the production is good, the script it self is worth it. Some minor things that could have been better. but it is not a big deal. Loved the message, and the side characters (specially the teacher's backstory, it all came around nicely). Loved to see Khaotung in a different role, I am impress. First and Neo, they did amazing as well, specially Neo who has been casted all the time as the same frat-like boy. I hope GMMTV keeps coming out with shows worth watching, it does not have to be moralistic, but at least give me the good writing like this.

Addressing last year's comments from my "GMMTV 2022 Series Trailer Reaction", Tonei said "Khaotung left a bad taste on me after Homophobic Chocolatee, I have to admit. However, it looks like he is going to redeem himself in this one." Did he redeem himself after all? Yes sir. Plus, "Would I watch based on the trailer? Absolutely, I can't wait omg. Honestly, this is my top trailer" did I watch it? Yes sir lol.

Did it suffer? not really. But it was good, not just Khaotung, but First too.

Final grade: 9. Legendary.

Not Me

Not a big fan of OffGun since Theory of Love, but Not Me did what needed to be done. Bold and fierce, this show is not just amazingly written but the cinematography and direction, boy, great!. The writers and director put their mindussy onto this one and I am giving credit to GMMTV just for producing it, because I know they failed the director. Anyway, great show, loved it, the acting and the side characters, chef kisses. First and Gawin forever babe.

Also, can we like give GMMTV a round of applause for making The Eclipse and Not Me, social commentary at its finest, loved it.

Bad Buddy (October 2021- January 2022)

I wrote two different entries for Bad Buddy, so you know I love it. There is just so much to love, from the acting to the production, they just gave us a gem. It was simple, but so good you couldn't take your off of the screen, intimate but not overdone, it was everything you hoped for a BL to be. This is one of the best BLs of this year and of all time.

KinnPorsche

Similar to Bad Buddy, KinnPorsche set a standard, not only in the production but also in the acting, chemistry, direction and writing. The writers and producers put out what they were selling, no hiding message, no subliminal shit, none of that, they gave us what they sold and for that, we give a round of applause. These guys acted their ass off and they did what most of the other shows lacked. In terms of not just writing but acting too.
