The best found footage horror films

Hello lovelies!

I am here just to write a little post on horror movies because I've been watching them in the past two weeks. I love horror movies and the found footage genre was one of my favorites when I was younger. So here it is... of course this is just my opinion, and maybe you do not like horror movies and you clicked out by now. Anyways.

Nightlight (2015)

I would be a fool to say that I do not like this film. It is a piece of garbage, but entertaining garbage. This film has some actors that I love, Mitch from Skins, Chloe from Camp Rock 2, Carter Jenkins from I do not know where, and Shelby Young from I also don't know where. The premise is easy, a group of teenager go to the forest at night to play "nightlight" and then everything goes south. The film relies on jump scares or wolves sounds, but, I have seen this movie 5 times and believe me, it is not good, but I enjoy it.

Blair Witch (2016)

Yes, the 2016 "sequel" to the original film, in my opinion, is better than the 1999 film. Of course I was not alive back then so I did not experienced the thrill everybody else did with the marketing and such... so I am speaking from what I know, and have seen. This film received acclaim reviews upon released on some festival, until it was screened to more critics and then it plumed. However, this film was number one at the box office in my house. It is intense, and when the horror starts, it starts for real. It is not an excellent horror movie, however, in the spectrum of found footage horror films, this one is solid. There is one scene that involves a break, that caught me off guard I screamed at the theater. The acting is mid and the overall writing is shallow, the third act loses some of its course and you can tell they just wanted to stretch it out at some point. I have not done enough research but, for what I've seen, this film makes the Blair Witch look like an Alien and not a demon? Anyway, love this film.

Unfriended (2015)

Shelley from Teen Wolf is on this film, and I was pumped when this was announced because I love her on TW. This film is not so good, but it is a good time. If you want to spend your Saturday night drinking some wine and watching a found footage film that it is not complicated or SHAKY with bad quality, this is the one. They could have done better with some of the scenes, specially the killings lol. Like the guy who died by the blender, or all, honestly, they could have been scarier. Anyway, Unfriended is a good time, but its sequel is a flop.

Incantation (2022)

I saw this film when I was in my second round of COVID. and I was alone at home, in my tiny room, only my tv was on and I was terrified. Needless to say is, this film is confusing at times, it has a lot of scenes that seem like they are all just cut and put together on an iPhone or something. It is disgusting at times and it just takes you for a ride and then you are left thinking about where the fuck did you just go. Anyway, it is a good time, if its raining and you have nothing else to watch. This is above all of the others, but I would say Blair Witch, Unfriended and Incantation make a good found footage marathon for a Saturday night.

Paranormal Activity 2 & 3 (2010 & 2011)

Paranormal activity came out when I was 9, and to think that I was allow into the theater is just crazy. Not just me, but all of my cousins just because we went with two adults. Anyway, it is the second entry on the franchise that really made me scream like a little b. Particularly the stairs scene. Partly because my grandma's house has a huge stairs that leads to the rooms, and guess where I was raised? teehee. My cousin and I got home that day and we both sprinted towards the stairs and started crying lol.

The third installment? even better. It is not scarier in my opinion, but it is more fleshed out, story-wise. It has a lot of good camera angles that makes you just go "oh shit."

As above, so below (2014)

Debating on whether this is my favorite found footage film or the next one. As above, so below, has found its audience in modern day thanks to TikTok, however, my mom had this little gem on DVD back in 2015 (I said this as if we are in 2030), and I was curious to find out what it was about. My sister and I decided to set up our room, cover the windows, get popcorn and play it. Scared the hell out of us. This film is just great, the jump scares are effective and it looks real, like REAL. It has its flaws, but man, this is just one of the best, particularly the set up, the scenery is just amazing, makes you wonder if it does look like that beneath the Catacombs (yes, I am lazy to actually go online and do some research). If you have not seen it, get to it now.

REC franchise

Oh my, I saw REC for the first time with a friend back in 2013. I was already a zombie movie lover, but this one had me shaking. Particularly because my aunt had just moved us out of our grandma's home (because we were growing up and needed our own space) to a complex, six apartments in one tiny complex. Not similar to the one in this film, but kinda. When I got home, all I kept thinking about was "if something like that happens, how do I survive", and of course, I was young so I decided to go to the rooftop and start plotting. Oh what a time to be alive. REC (first film) is just so scary, by the last act you really just don't wanna keep watching, the camera shaking, and pointing at specific places, the darkness, just everything about it makes it a good time and a scary one.

Of course with such a success you would expect sequels, and they came, with an American remake that was just trash. However, the sequel was good, and even though they did not change the setting, they still managed to give us a good time yet again. Then we got the third entry which is just so bad I have seen it once, and once only. and the last film on the franchise which takes us back to our lovely reporter Angela, an improvement but just not as good.

Yes, I am watching BLS. but I will have more content after next Friday since I am going on a vacation! :)
